Created in 1760 to look after the trousseau of the French queen Marie Antoinette, Chenue is today the largest company specialising in fine art logistics in the world. A partner of Clé Reserva Contemporânea in Brazil, the French company is involved in the storage and transport of some of the most important exhibitions and collections on the globe. But what does that mean in numbers?
To begin with, Chenue maintains 70,000 square metres of storage area in two warehouses located north of Paris, 30 minutes from Charles de Gaulle airport. Another warehouse of 2,300 square metres is 15 minutes from Nice Airport, also very close to Cannes and to Monaco. The total area is equivalent to almost nine football pitches – all of it in climate-controlled spaces, with permanent control of temperature, humidity, security and fire prevention.
Chenue has 25 of its own lorries for transporting artworks, all climate-controlled, with padded interiors, fitted with pneumatic suspension and monitored by geolocation. In addition to these vehicles, the company also has a network of partners all over the world that guarantees the quality of the end-to-end logistics service, whatever the places of origin and destination of the artworks.
With this capacity, the company works on around 90 exhibitions a year, totalling around 3,000 crates transported.
