The 13th Bienal do Mercosul, in Porto Alegre, runs until 20 November and this year shows works by 99 artists in ten different spaces of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. With the theme Trauma, sonho e fuga, the event has activations in urban spaces and group exhibitions in traditional venues and in new locations of the city – the circuit includes the Largo Moacyr Scliar, the Travessa do Catavento, the Fundação Iberê Camargo, the Instituto Caldeira and the Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul (MARGS).
“Almost all trauma survivors experience some kind of sleep problem, such as insomnia. But, for about half of the three quarters of people, it is vivid dreams that make deep sleep difficult and open the doors of consciousness to a path to be invented. Trauma is the greatest fuel of art of all time and dreams are a stratagem for escape”, explains the Biennial's publicity text, whose curators are Marcello Dantas (coordinator), Tarsila Riso, Laura Cattani, Munir Klamt and Carolina Lauriano (associates).
Among the participating works are pieces by artists such as Lygia Clark (featured photo), Marina Abramovic, Dora Smék, Gabriel de la Mora, Juliana Góngora Rojas, Leandro Lima, Marilá Dardot, among others. See the full programme on the event's website.
