If you live in Recife or have a trip there planned, be aware that the exhibition Necrobrasiliana is a must-see. The show is on at the Galeria Vicente do Rêgo Monteiro, at the Fundação Joaquim Nabuco. Curated by Moacir dos Anjos, the exhibition presents 26 works by 12 contemporary artists who reinterpret the records of cartographers, photographers, writers and scientists who documented Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries.
The works presented are by the artists Ana Lira, Dalton Paula, Denilson Baniwa, Gê Viana, Jaime Lauriano, Rosana Paulino, Rosângela Rennó, Sidney Amaral, Thiago Martins de Melo, Tiago Sant’Anna, Yhuri Cruz and Zózimo Bulbul.
“The works of the 12 artists who make up the exhibition put forward this critique and argue for the construction of a new sociability. Another form of life, more inclusive and fairer, in which it is possible to overcome this pacified memory that we have of this cordial country”, highlights Moacir dos Anjos, who was the curator of the 29ª Bienal de São Paulo (2010) and of the Brazilian pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale (2011), among other major exhibitions in Brazil.
Before its installation in Recife, the show opened at the Museu Paranaense, in Curitiba, between June and August. All the transport was carried out by Art Quality, a company specialising in fine art logistics and a partner of Clé Reserva Contemporânea.
The Galeria Vicente do Rêgo Monteiro is located at the Fundaj headquarters in the Derby district, in central Recife (Rua Henrique Dias, 609) – in the same building that houses the Cinema da Fundação.
