Painted between 1929 and 1930, the work was bought by a collector in France shortly after it was finished and had never been shown in Brazil. Now it is the highlight of the exhibition *[**Di Cavalcanti – 125 anos**](https://www.farolsantander.com.br/#/sp/agenda/exp_22)* , on show at the [Farol Santander](https://www.farolsantander.com.br/#/) , in the centre of the São Paulo state capital. *Carnaval* is shown alongside other important works by the artist in which he sought to portray Brazil and its people, such as *Seresta* (1925), *Devaneio* (1927) and *Mulata na Cadeira* (1970, Coleção Santander Brasil). The exhibition has, in all, 45 works by the Brazilian artist, including 25 oils on canvas that offer an overview of Di Cavalcanti’s career. The exhibition includes the 16 prints from the album *Fantoches da meia-noite* (1921), with texts by the poet Ribeiro Couto and published by Monteiro Lobato, considered a strikingly modern work for its time – the Semana de Arte Moderna of 1922 would only take place the following year. According to Farol Santander, “the group of works offers a unique opportunity to see some of his masterpieces and to follow his pictorial trajectory, aesthetic research, constructive choices and elective affinities”. All the logistics for the exhibition were handled by [Art Quality](https://artquality.com.br/) , a company specialising in artworks and a partner of Clé Reserva Contemporânea in the handling, packing and unpacking of collections.
