The Brazilian art market ended 2023 on a strong note and, according to a special report in Valor Econômico, part of this movement has to do with the interest of people seeking to add value to their properties through the use of artworks as interior decoration – the first step towards the emergence of a collection.
Last year, SP-Arte and SP-Arte Rotas Brasileiras welcomed 40,000 people and, according to their creator, Fernanda Feitosa, the galleries taking part in both events had an average sale value of around R$ 300,000. In total, the two fairs generated R$ 120 million.
According to the report, this interest from the public has also boosted demand for art advisors, experienced professionals who help new collectors to refine their eye, to look at works worth acquiring, to identify at the very least the material they are made of – a relevant issue when assessing future conservation and restoration needs – among other aspects.
The construction of new buildings, whether commercial or residential, also drives the acquisition of artworks for display in communal areas.
